aelie-baby:

There are three givens in the universe:

1. Taxes

2. Death

3. All of the women of Gundam Wing are BAMFs of the highest caliber. All of them. Relena included. Relena especially. She is second only in my love of that mother of all badasses, Sally Oedipus Po.

That being said.

Relena is exceedingly annoying in these first few episodes. And that’s ok. This scene can tell us so much about who she is at the beginning.

First, and most importantly, she is a fifteen year old kid whose entire life has been completely sheltered and spoiled. Having also been a sheltered, upper-middle-class, cishetero white female, I can promise you I was an annoying bint at fifteen. Hell, after teaching fourteen and fifteen year olds for four years, I can tell you that every single fifteen year old on the planet can be annoying and obnoxious at times. It’s, like, hardwired into human DNA.

Second, Relena is a Daddy’s Girl. Think about it: how many dads take their kids out of school to go on a business trip with them? And without Mom? I know mine sure as hell didn’t, even when I spoke the native language of the destination better than he did. That means either Daddy Darlian doesn’t care about Relena’s schooling at all, or he feels that her time would be better served accompanying him on these trips. Although alternatively Relena could have guilt-tripped him into taking her since he’s a raging workaholic.Possibly, but I’m going with not likely. Either way, Relena is not a happy camper that Daddy Darlian takes her on these trips and then ignores her. And let’s be honest, you probably wouldn’t be a happy camper either. This is not her showing what an absolute brat she is, this is a her being a normal fifteen year old girl that is disappointed that her father would take her on a trip, and then not spend any time with her at all. And she is expressing that disappointment in the most teenagerly fashion of all: a huff and an eye roll.
