So, I don’t have this manga, but it would be nice to see because there are several discrepancies between it and the movie/OVA series which sheds a little more light onto certain topics, and it closes out the Gundam Wing saga differently as well. After reading the scripts, I can see where the movie pulled things from, and also perhpas why they changed somethings.

For instance, they open the question if Mariemaia is really Treize’s daughter. In the last few scenes, after Dekim Barton shoots Mariemaia (who was blocking Relena), he says “I can find another Mariemaia. I picked up that girl from the stre—”, and he is shot by a Treize loyalist. This line barely makes it into the movie as Dekim says, “We can always find another Mariemaia”.

So is Mariemaia really the daughter of Treize Khushrenada and Leia Barton? According to this version of EW, no. However, if we read the Episode Zero manga, there is definite evidence towards her being a Khushrenada.

BUT, and excuse my OTP rantings, there is a huge difference in Heero’s end story. As a “summary” from Aboutgundamwing.com says, the last few pages of the manga show:

Int. Meeting hall. Relena stands before a large video screen with the image of the “Mars Terraforming Project” behind her and many people in attendance in the room listening to her speech. In the wings of the stage, wearing dark glasses and a suit and wearing a communication earpiece, is Heero Yuy.

So, if we take this volume as canon (it was written and illustrated by the same people who did the original manga), it means that Heero was originally set to close out the series working as part of Relena’s security team. I can only assume that it’s a private company he’s working for, or his own company, since he isn’t described as wearing the Preventer jacket, just “a suit” and “a communication earpiece”. Well, I can see why they would change his end story for the movie, but this manga ending certainly pleases the fans ^_^ Wish I could get my hands on this manga!

It’s like the entire series was a constant battle between the creators and the staff writers. Pairings, plot holes, leaves nice little pockets for us fans to creep into and exploit with our fanfiction…hehe…
